ELEVEN FRIDAY NIGHT

Words and Music by Anne M Carley © 1994 – 2002

From the point of view of a career woman with old friends who went the more traditional route

So you want to get together for the evening
Just a little get-together with the gang from years ago
You’ll be here in the city till eleven Friday night
You’ll bring snapshots of your kids, the ones that I don’t know.

I’ll leave the office early for the evening
You say you need another woman for the table to make sense
You’re all here in the city till eleven Friday night
Maybe this time will be better, it won’t be so intense

When you’re safely back at home, you’ll kiss the baby
And your wife may wonder why you act sincere
I will lie awake and wonder why I said I’d go tonight
I don’t think I’ll be back again next year….

When you need a better mirror than the old one
When the old one in your bedroom makes you look too tired and worn
Do you linger in the city till eleven Friday night
When you look at me tonight, are you glad you settled down….

You’ll bring the photos
I’ll supply the tension
To have a good time
Do you need unspoken feelings in suspension?

When you’re safely back at home, you’ll soon be sleeping
And in your dreams, the old days rarely reappear
I will lie awake and hate myself for showing up tonight
This was the last time – I won’t be back next year
