MP3 play whole song, hi-fi (broadband)
Inspired by life in NYC – a composite portrait of several people. I loved working out the cello part!
Kicked a pillow out of bed last night
Then I woke up, disgusted and alone
One more grouchy morning
After one more wakeful sleep,
No partner, no dance, no band to set the toneSo rootless I could float away
So rootless I could leave todayCouldn’t open up a door last night
I was crying, as I walked down the hall
I pushed on the right side
But the door pulled on the left
No roadmap, no guide, no instinct for it allAngry — the whole ten dollar taxi home
Angry at those uptown phonies
Angry at those girls in grade school
Angry at those boys in high school
Forgetting I don’t need them….So rootless I could float away
So rootless I could leave todayKicked a pillow out of bed again
Then I woke up, still here, still alone
One more same-old morning
After one more same-old sleep
Same person, same life, same silent telephoneSo rootless I could float away
So rootless I could leave today
